UniDesign Watch Co., a newcomer to the microbrand watch scene, offers its interpretation of the integrated bracelet watch with the soon-to-be-released Model One. The Model One sports a super-wearable 37mm stainless steel case in a silhouette the brand calls “beveled square.” The case,kopi klokker which measures a slender 9.8mm thick and 46mm lug-to-lug, is topped with an eight-sided bezel with soft rounded edges and furnished with a faceted screw-down winding crown.
That crown is protected by two guards that protrude slightly from the right-hand side of the case, which is visually balanced by a similar ridge on the left. There’s a beautiful contrast between the brushed surfaces and the high-polished edges, and the sides of the case are punctuated with exposed screws for a touch of industrial design aesthetic. Attached to the case is a flat, integrated bracelet with H-Links, furnished with a folding deployant clasp. The bracelets were designed to ensure utmost comfort on the wrist.
The dial of the Model One watch is decorated with an appealing brick-like tapisserie pattern, which was a deliberate departure from the more common waffle motif. There are generously sized broad-arrow hands and applied indices, complete with a prominent “12” at noon — all liberally coated with Super-LumiNova. There’s also a date window at 3 o’clock, framed in steel. Powering the UniDesign Watch Co. Model One watch is the reliable Miyota 9015 automatic movement with around 42 hours of power reserve.
The movement sits beneath a solid caseback decorated with grooves to allow better airflow between the wrist and watch, especially on those hot summer days. The Model One watch is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet), ensuring a fantastic go-anywhere, do-anything experience.
To launch the Model One collection, the brand is offering three dial variants of the watch, all themes inspired by the founder’s travels around Europe. Santorini Blue draws inspiration from the scenic island it’s named after, as well as the Aegean Sea that surrounds it. Olive Green represents the earthy, energetic but calm nature of southern Italy, peppered with ancient trees across rolling landscapes. Finally, Stone Grey mimics the weathered cobblestone streets of Athens, offering a neutral tone that’s unobtrusive and versatile. Speaking of European inspirations, the silhouette of the case and hands of the Model One loosely resembles London’s Big Ben, the most famous clock in the world.
